About
Eric Walker
Eric Walker is a lawyer, amateur genealogist, and family historian living in Ohio. His debut, Lost Souls Recovered, was published by Torchflame Books in 2022. A second novel, Belly of the Beast, is forthcoming. A third, Beta Reader, is in progress.
As an amateur genealogist and family historian, Eric Walker was impelled to write his debut novel Lost Souls Recovered when he discovered the richness of family stories through research of historical documents and those told to him by relatives.
Walker has spent some thirty years tracing his ancestry, connecting more than a thousand family members. Inspired as a young man by Roots, he later sat with relatives in the 1990s who told him the story of his great-grandfather, John Davis — who fled a Virginia plantation in the post-Reconstruction years. That fragment became the seed of Lost Souls Recovered.
“The idea of historical fiction is to blend true events and people who actually existed and somehow weave that into a story,” he has said. “If we can understand the fact that our history as African Americans, we carry this trauma. Why is that trauma still there today? And through my book, I try to explain how people are traumatized and what people can do… to overcome years of traumatization by the effects of slavery.”
He is a lawyer and lives in Ohio. Lost Souls Recovered is out now from Torchflame Books. Belly of the Beast is forthcoming. Beta Reader is the novel on the desk.
“I wanted to be an author more than a lawyer.”
I write stories that refuse to let the past remain buried. The archives tell us what happened. Fiction allows us to imagine what it felt like. Between those two realities lies the human heart — and that is where my stories live.
